PARTNERSHIP
The University of the Peloponnese, established in 2000, has become the sole academic institution of higher education in the Peloponnese region. It has developed close collaborative ties both within the geographical area of the Peloponnese and at national and international levels. Many academic and scientific organizations in Greece and abroad collaborate with the University of the Peloponnese on national and European programs, either within the framework of joint postgraduate programs or as partners in international research consortia, in several of which the University of the Peloponnese act as the coordinator.
The University of the Peloponnese operates as a decentralized academic institution across six cities, with its headquarters in Tripoli. Due to its decentralized nature, the University draws resources (e.g., in buildings) from various cities and leverages the rich intangible cultural heritage of each area in the Peloponnese. The continuous effort to improve and establish the University of the Peloponnese within the national and European academic landscape has led, among other achievements, to its recent accreditation by the competent independent authority, demonstrating its successful alignment with the Quality Assurance Principles of the European Higher Education Area.
The Peloponnese region is located in the southern part of Greece and includes the prefectures of Argolis, Arcadia, Corinthia, Laconia, and Messinia. The area is geographically characterized by a rich landscape that combines mountains, such as Taygetos and Parnon, with fertile plains known for the production of olive oil, wine, and other agricultural products. The natural landscape also features beaches and coastal resorts that attract tourists throughout the year.
Socio-economically, the Peloponnese region has historically relied on agriculture and tourism, but in recent years, efforts have been made to develop other sectors, such as renewable energy and manufactory. Finally, local traditions, cuisine, celebrations, and festivals keep the cultural heritage of the region alive.
