The Region of Peloponnese and the European Commission join forces for innovation and addressing demographic challenges: The role of UniStart Hubs.
On Monday, December 9, 2024, executives from UniStart Hubs participated in the two-day technical meeting 'Harnessing Talent in Europe’s Regions,' hosted by the Peloponnese Region, as part of the European Commission’s Talent Booster Mechanism initiative. The meeting, which took place in Tripoli, served as a reference point for showcasing talent and creating a sustainable development framework in the Peloponnese.
Specifically, the Regional Governor of Peloponnese, Mr. Dimitris Ptochos, emphasized: 'This initiative is a unique opportunity to showcase the talents of Peloponnese, providing our youth with the incentives to stay, create, and contribute to the development of our region.' Then, the Rector of the University of Peloponnese, Mr. Athanasios Katsis, presented the emblematic projects being implemented by the University of Peloponnese, funded by the National Strategic Reference Framework (NSRF), in full collaboration with the Peloponnese Region and the Chambers of Commerce of the Region, such as the Innovation Office.
Subsequently, as part of the event, the Head of the Structures, Ms. Eleni Mitsea, presented the progress and results from the first year of operation of the structures. Over 70 beneficiaries have already received services to develop their business ideas, supported by a network of 20 mentors and experts. The structures have also organized 9 events, with the participation of more than 400 attendees and 60 invited speakers. All activities aim to mobilize the entrepreneurship ecosystem and connect the University and the research being conducted there with the market.
The meeting concluded with specific proposals for utilizing European practices, aiming to connect innovation, education, and entrepreneurship. At the same time, the need for collaboration among all local stakeholders was highlighted to strengthen social cohesion and address demographic challenges.
